The Cabinet of Sri Lanka is the council of cabinet ministers , responsible to parliament. Cabinet ministers are appointed by the President under the advice of the Prime Minister and serve at his pleasure. Officially the prime minister is the head of the cabinet, but the cabinet is chaired by the president and he is the de facto head of the cabinet. The Cabinet meets several times a week to discuss vital issues. Outside of the cabinet there are a number of junior ministers; these include non-cabinet ministers and deputy ministers reporting directly to a senior minister. The current cabinet of President Mahinda Rajapaksa consists of 9 Senior Ministers, 49 Cabinet Ministers & 31 Deputy Ministers.[1] Former cabinet, also known as the "Jumbo Cabinet," holding a world record for the largest cabinet, was dissolved in February 2010, and a new cabinet appointed on 23 April 2010.
